After School Fitness is probably our most rewarding of all our programs

after-school-fitness program

Our After School Fitness is probably our most rewarding of all our programs. We not only pick the kids up from school and look after them like they are our own children, we also make sure they are being coached according to their ability and fitness level.

They are served a fresh snack with fruit and veges as the main course (yes, the kids actually eat healthy foods when their parents aren’t around).

We’re not just a baby sitting service. We don’t just dump your kids in a room and let them fend for themselves. We don’t let them watch T.V for longer than it takes them to eat their snack.

We give them a CrossFit Kids session which is structured and specific to their age and ability. They get free play on the back oval where they get quality soccer coaching if that’s their sport of preference. We also provide a variety of sports equipment, different games and activities for them to choose from. We then have chill out time in our dedicated Kids Santuary before parent pick up time. Kids have the option to do supervised homework, board games, reading, fusball, arts and colouring in.

We take this program very seriously and we always aim to provide a high quality of service and we make sure that our staff deliver value to every single session.

Did you know that The Athletic Buddha is the only registered CrossFit Kids gym within the Mortlake, Cabarita, Concord, Five Dock, North Strathfield, Homebush and Concord West area? Well we are.

We’ve hit a bump in the road

daniel

???? We’ve hit a bump in the road ⛔

It is with some disappointment that we announce the end of the road for our Mortlake premises.

Due to council regulations The Athletic Buddha Part 2 will have to find a new location. Long story short- recent changes to zoning mean we can’t trade as a gym in that area.

But… We aren’t stopping here. This is just a little obstacle that we will jump over and move on from. Stay tuned over the next few months as we are on the hunt for our second location.

Until then: We have a very special offer for all the residents of Mortlake, Breakfast Point, Cabarita and Concord.

Ever since our initial announcement we have had dozens of enquiries as to “when, where and what” will be happening in Mortlake. The enquiries have mainly come from people who live in those areas and tell us that they’ve been wanting to come to our current location in Concord West but they tell us, “you’re to far”.

So.. what we would like to offer to all the residents of those areas is a special TWO WEEK FREE TRIAL. We usually offer only 1 week, but just so you can try out the travel time and see if we are a good fit for you, we will make this offer for the month of June.

No strings attached, No obligation to sign, No credit card details and No hard sell. Give it a go. If it works, great. If it doesn’t, well at least we tried.

We are a 6 minute drive from Majors Bay Road and we have lots of parking.

We look forward to seeing you soon and don’t forget to bring your drivers licence to prove that you are a local.

* This offer excludes ex-members, CrossFit Kids/ Youth and ASF.

Powerhouse gymnastic gurus, the Dalecki Sisters

power house gymnastic

Today we hosted the powerhouse gymnastic gurus, the Dalecki Sisters.

It was a very informative, practical and fun workshop that will be the first of many.

Gymnastics is not something that we should be scared of or shy away from. Moving your body weight around a fixed bar is not only great for burning calories but amazing for your physical strength as well as your flexibility.

Swim squad at Sydney Olympic Park

daniel swim squad

As part of my knee rehab and to help prop up my fitness as well as keeping my waist line down, I decided to go and join the swim squad at Sydney Olympic Park.

Alarm was set for 3:30AM and after a 40 minute meditation and fueling my body with 2 litres of water, I headed for the pool.

The 15 minute drive was a mind battle.

There was a tug of war of “do I go for a swim or do I just go to the gym and do my regular rehab session?” On a couple of occasions I had convinced myself to skip the swim squad and make my way to the comfort of what I knew.

“I’m not a strong swimmer”.
“It might hurt my knee”.
“It’s too cold”.
“I should just go sit on the assault bike and burn some cals”.

All these valid excuses to suit my initial want to stay within my comfort zone and not step into the unknown. The other swimmers were all going to seem like Olympians compared to me and the thought of getting in my ‘budgie smugglers’ with my ‘dad gut’ wasn’t helping my cause. It would of been really easy to turn right onto George street off Pomeroy street and head for The Athletic Buddha headquarters. That would of been the easiest and safest thing to do.

Then I had a strong word to myself and I pulled myself into line. I had a saying pop into my head that drove me to keep heading straight for Underwood road and back on track with my new goal.

“If you do what you’ve always done, you’ll get what you’ve always got”.

I’m not even sure if that’s exactly how the saying goes but it worked at that moment.

So I arrive at the pool. I’m still feeling a little uncertain on where to go, I don’t have my goggles- who knows where the kids have hidden them, blah blah blah.

I arrive at the front counter, I ask to buy a pair of goggles. “I’m sorry, the shop is closed, you can ask the guys downstairs if they have a pair to lend you”.

So off I trot downstairs. I ask one of the staff if they have a spare pair of swim goggles to lend me and he asks me to follow him.

“We should have a pair, just give me a sec” he says.

2 minutes later he comes out of his office and says, “sorry we don’t seem to have any today”.

This was my chance to walk away. I tried to give it a go, but it was to hard. I even got past the entry gates- that’s good enough, right? I said to myself.

It wasn’t meant to be.

Then I stopped, turned around and walked 40 metres towards a guy who looked like he might be the coach. I asked him if he had a set of goggles for me to use. He started to look through his bag.

“Yeah mate, Here you go” as he pulled out my ticket to swim.

I quickly went upstairs, paid my entry and I was good to go.

4 laps into the session, I couldn’t help but feel grateful that I had persevered with my goal for the day. I had many legitimate opportunities to pull out of this self imposed deal but instead I decided to stay in my uncomfortable zone.

Today I was reminded that it’s good for me to get vulnerable. I learn and grow the most when I step outside my box and let my discomfort be the teacher as it guides me to something new and refreshing.

I loved every minute of the 75 minute session today. Even though I’m an ordinary swimmer and struggled with some of tasks I was lapping up the experience and felt a sense of aliveness.

I sucked at it but I didn’t give a shit. I’ll suck again next week and I’ll keeping suck-ing and build up my fitness along the way.

1.7km of swimming that could of very easily not have happened if I had given into my mind chatter of doing what I know and is comfortable.

CROSSFIT YOUTH TONIGHT

crossfit-youth11-15 year olds.
We are excited to welcome back our CrossFit Youth classes starting next Monday 6th and Thursday 9th of May for an 8 week block. This program is for all kids, big, small, athletic, non-athletic and even for those who hate team sports. The CrossFit Youth program challenges the child in a safe and encouraging environment and the skills learnt will transfer to all areas of life not just fitness.

The CrossFit Youth program teaches proper form and mechanics in functional and athletic movements in classes that are different every session with a focus on FUN. Our program teaches children to love fitness by making fitness fun and accessible for all.

Whether your child is a natural athlete or not, we will cater to his or her ability, allowing each child to experience challenge and reward every class.

CrossFit trains children to be generally physically prepared, encompassing all ten general physical skills (strength, balance, coordination, flexibility, stamina, speed, agility, power, cardiovascular endurance, and accuracy) and in doing so prepares them for the demands of life. Not only that, a vast body of research indicates that exercise is beneficial to cognitive function, which means the program can have a positive impact on children’s academic achievement.

Our CrossFit Youth Sessions include a dynamic warm-up, skill development and a workout. Each class is approximately 45 minutes long. We keep your kid fit, agile, flexible and healthy in body and mind but the first goal is to get them having fun with their exercise.

All our coaches are highly experienced and are ‘working with children’ accredited. We are a family run gym that promotes total health and wellness for all ages.

COST: $192 for 1 session per week or $364 for 2 session per week. (8 weeks). This includes a CrossFit Tank. *Enquire about the ‘sibling discount’. ✅ We are a registered Active Kids Provider- Claim Your $100 Active Kids voucher.
